Have you ever had a divine timing moment? On March 25th I found the lump. I was laying there in bed and just happened to feel it on my right side. It felt hard like it didn’t belong, but I tried to rationalize it away. My mom had had breast cancer twice, so I tried to be pretty in tune with my body and check myself regularly. I knew there was something off, but at 31, you just don’t expect it to be cancer…yet. That’s something reserved for you 40’s at least. I texted one of my best friends about it and she urged me to not wait.
I waited anyways. I waited a week and a half before I woke up one night, felt it, and panicked. It felt larger than I had remembered. I tried to make an appointment online right then but had to wait until the next morning for the Kaiser phone lines to open up to schedule an appointment because of Coronavirus. I got in that very next day and from there, I was able to start my journey to start fighting cancer instead of just living with it.
Just as I had been woken up in the middle of the night, I found out later that so too had one of my biggest Christian mentors, Jon. There was something calling him to pray for me and my family. We hadn’t talked or seen each other for years, but there was something that stirred us both awake. All I can think is that God’s divine timing is so precious. Even though I had waited to act, I’m so glad that Jon didn’t hesitate to pray for me. I’m not sure what would have happened if he hadn’t prayed for me that night, if I hadn’t felt that sudden urge to get tested, but I’m so glad he answered God’s call.
His amazing wife, Tracy, sent me this message after hearing about my diagnosis. Jon was my agriculture FFA Advisor back in high school, so here’s a throw-back to my freshman year!
