Maybe instead of asking, “why me,” we should be saying, “use me.”

Do you ever wonder why you got picked? Why you got handed cancer or a death in the family or a broken home or a car accident or…you fill in the blank.

I do. There are days when life feels extra heavy. There are nights that are long with endless questions of why. Why me?

My friend recently brought up the book of Job in the Bible. Job was a prosperous farmer who originally had a successful and plentiful life. Satan was looking for someone to attack and God answered him, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Job’s family, health, and wealth were destroyed by Satan in attempts to prove that Job’s faith was fleeting and that he only trusted God because life was going well for him. But when all was stripped from Job, his spirit of faith stood firm. The Lord eventually restored his riches and gave him twice as much as he had before.

God believed in Job. He knew that Job would be faithful, and so he allowed Satan to play his games. And as a result, Job’s unconditional faith has been used as an example for hundreds of years.

Maybe instead of asking, “why me,” we should be saying, “use me.” Just as God believed in Job, he believes in you, too. Maybe God is trying to show something special through your story and he is simply asking for your faithfulness. Your pain can become your platform, friend, and your story has the potential to change the world. What message are you telling with your life?
