Chemo came in like the changing of a season.

It forced its way in, demanding transformation. And as quickly as it came, it was gone. Done. 16 sessions over 5 months. Finished.

I suppose that’s how changes usually transpire. Slowly and then suddenly. Just like the leaves changing in the fall. Just like this process of fighting breast cancer.

Just as I was getting used to the landscape, a new season now starts.

A chemo port now irrelevant. Nurses I’ll no longer see anymore. Hair coming back. Radiation planning starting this week.

I’m still processing this change on a heart level, but my body is ready to take on the next chapter.

A 9 mile hike through mountains of aspens this last weekend reminded me that we should appreciate each season for what it brings. Sometimes seasons are stripping, sometimes they grow us, and sometimes they are full of beautiful color. We can’t have one without the other. They’re all necessary.

So here we go. Onto the next season. Changed.
