Courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is choosing to act despite our fears, deciding that something else is more important than what we are afraid of.

How many times have you given into fear? How many times have you failed to act because you were too scared to face the “what if’s”? Too scared to schedule that doctor appointment. Too scared to apply for that job. Too scared to travel. Too scared to have that hard conversation. Too scared to call that boy. Too scared to dance.

Living life “too scared” isn’t living at all. And I’ve realized facing the “what if’s” that come from failing to act are far worse than facing the “what if’s” when we do.

I didn’t want to face another doctor appointment today to check for cancer recurrence. But failing to act had the potential to yield far worse consequences than simply meeting the challenge head on. So I went to the doctor appointment. I was helped by the same nurse who hugged me eight months ago after receiving my biopsy results. It was uncomfortable. It was scary. But I did it.

I did it because my future is far more important than the fear it took to sit in that hospital room again.

We have a lot of choices in our life, and I pray you always act in courage. Don’t miss out on the good stuff because you’re scared of the hard stuff.

So make that appointment. Apply for that job. Travel to places you’ve never been. Have that hard conversation. Call that boy. Dance.

You’ve got this👊🏼
