Write a letter to an inmate✍🏼📝💌

14 years ago I was in a head-on car collision caused by a guy on meth. The accident broke my back, and if the surgery hadn’t gone well, I could have been paralyzed. Spending 2 weeks in a hospital, 6 months in a clam shell back brace, and multiple years fully recovering, it was hard facing such a difficult challenge caused by a stranger. But over time, I realized that was my first real opportunity to learn what grace meant. I didn’t know his story, but I knew he was only 18 years old driving while on meth. Somewhere in his story there was hurt that brought him to that moment. Hurt people hurt people. It took some time to really let go of my anger, but when I did, I found so much peace.

Sometimes God allows us to slam into each other in order to learn from each other. I have since learned how to give grace, and my prayer for him is that he would feel grace, that he is completely forgiven. I hope we both live better because we have felt that overwhelming sense of freedom that comes only by grace.

He spent time in jail for his actions, and many others are also paying the price for theirs. But that does not make them throw-away-people. No one is ever too far gone to be changed by God’s perfect love. If you believe in miracles, believe then that people can change. Sometimes people do change because of people like YOU who first believed they could.

Pray for their lost hearts, and send an inmate a letter of encouragement to remind them that someone believes in them. I have volunteered with God Behind Bars, and they are doing incredible things in the souls of inmates everywhere by bringing church services and small groups to them to help grow their relationship with God.

I dare you to try it! Then take a video/picture of you doing it, post it using the hashtags below, and then tag and challenge someone else to do it, too! Let’s see how far kindness can spread this month!
